The mouth of the righteous

Righteous: Doing or conforming to that which is right; just; honorable. (Webster's)

From the reading of Proverbs 10, the mouth of the righteous:
is a fountain of life
is choice silver
nourishes many
brings forth wisdom
knows what is fitting
One small chapter from the entire Bible can set a different tone in our homes, our cars, our places of work and worship if we are obedient to it's commands.

Is This Your Son?

Most of us cannot imagine the heartbreak this mother is faced with on a daily basis. My prayer is that first and foremost a miracle would happen where this mother and son would stay together. I cannot imagine dressing up my boys in their best clothes, having their photos taken, and knowing it is not just for a frame on the wall but for someone to see them and adopt them. Please pray that God would intervene and His plan would come to light for this little boy and his Momma.

Coming Along

A room with a view

Back in the summer, my husband and father - in - law began building a clubhouse for the boys. They designed it and started work. Over time, it has grown into quite a project. While we were hoping to complete the work this week over my husband's vacation, we still made progress.
Inside, the room has light colored paneling, 2 windows, electricity with and overhead light, a loft that will have a ladder made to climb up to, and we will buy a rug for the floor. You can see a peek at the deck that is attached to the back. That is my favorite part. It feels like you are nestled in the woods.
We still have to paint the trim work outside, trim the inside, and build the ladder for the loft. The boys cannot wait for the finished product, so they can start moving in some of their "stuff."

Monarch Tagging

This morning we took part in a Monarch tagging at the national park close to our home. We drove up and met the coordinator and several other homeschoolers to go out into the open fields in the park with nets to try and catch these butterflies.
It is late in the season to be tagging them, but because of the rain and cooler fall temperatures this year, it has slowed down their migration. As soon as we walked into the field we began seeing them.

My oldest was the first of the group to catch a Monarch. In the end, both boys were able to net a Monarch. The coordinator showed the boys how to tag the butterfly (a small sticker with a number) and how to hold them as well. When they were done tagging, they got to release them back into the wild.

Our instructor was very knowledgeable about this process and really educated us about Monarchs. She encouraged us to really catch any type of butterfly we could find, and we would identify those as well. We learned so much more about this process by actual doing it instead of reading about it in a textbook. Hopefully, the Monarchs the boys tagged will make it to their destination in Mexico, and someone will turn in their numbers. The coordinator said she would contact us if their Monarch's are located outside of our area.

Fall

We have had a fun and busy fall. The boys are loving going to Lego Club once a week at our homeschool co-op. They meet for an hour and build and build with other kids who love to build and build!
We have enjoyed our soccer season. Here is our oldest winning the White Star award for the season. We participate in the Upward program and the White Star trophy represents most Christ-like behavior on the field. We are very proud of him!

We spent a lovely rain free afternoon hiking to one of our newest finds with my Mom. The falls are just beautiful. The trees are really starting to show their colors and the afternoon was perfect for a fall hike.

We hosted our annual college homecoming dinner this year at our house. My two best friends and I graduated from the same college and each year at homecoming we try to attend the game as a family (It was too cold and wet with 8 kids to attend this year!) and then head over to one of our homes for dinner. The past few years the menu has included chili. The perfect food for a cool day! Between the 3 of us, we have 4 boys and 4 girls. The boys are pictured above at their table enjoying ice cream, brownies and yummy toppings.

We just completed a month long unit study about the Civil War. We took a little day trip to see one of the local battlefields and walk where the soldiers fought. The boys were much more interested in this trip than I had imagined they would be. It was quite sobering to realize that you were standing in an area where our country was divided and fighting one another.

This particular battlefield was very interesting to walk and drive through. We have had lots of rain this fall and enjoyed this sun filled day.

Peace
